Sophie was born in March 2002 following a normal birth. Although she had feeding problems from the beginning, there was no concern about her development. As time went on it became evident that Sophie was not progressing as she should. By six months of age she could not weight bear and would not attempt to move when placed on her tummy.
Sophie is still being tested for numerous diseases and syndromes. She has low muscle tone which has delayed the development of her gross and fine motor skills.
Sophie began a Neuro Developmental Therapy Program w hen she was 16 months old. After 12 months of therapy her hands and knees balance has improved and she is better able to support her weight. She can hold this position longer and her arm strength has increased. Sophie’s sitting balance has improved and she is making better eye contact and is more interested in the world around her.
Statement from Tracey (Sophie’s mother):
“The NDTP program is hard work that has now become a part of our lives. It is my hope that our perseverance will pay off and Sophie will progress to sit, crawl and walk. Ian Hunter and Friends of Brain Injured Children of QLD Inc are a great support particularly when it is a full time job doing the program.”
