Joseph had a normal birth with no indications that there were any problems. 20 hours after birth his mother realised that something was not right with him and he suffered a massive stroke. He was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit at the Mater Hospital.
His prognosis was that he would never hear, see or move. Joseph remained in hospital for 6 weeks then was sent home with little hope offered. His mother realised that he had some sight and hearing and Joseph began physiotherapy at 4 months.
Since commencing his NDTP program 4 months ago, Joseph has become much more aware and responsive. He is understanding some words, and is very interested in what is going on around him.
Joseph is very visually aware, is making good eye contact, is following, and is visually exploring new environments. He is a lot stronger, is able to sit unsupported, had much better head control, and is moving in circles on his tummy.
He is much more vocal and is babbling a lot during the day. His range of sounds has increased and he is really interested in verbal communication. He is now aware of his hands and is reaching out and attempting to play with toys.
Statement from Ingrid (Joseph’s mother):
“I never gave up hope for Joseph. Someone told me of the NDTP program and that it existed in Australia. With constant exercises and stimulation, Joseph now moves all limbs well, can sit up and has good control. I have no doubt that the NDTP program is helping him.”
